Carl Hoyt, a downbeat blue collar mechanic in his 30's is suffering depression and lack of interest in life. The life of Barton Dawnes is fairly normal, until the day the city council decides to extend the 784 Freeway. For them to do that, they'd have to demolish a few buildings, namely his house and his workplace.
