A possible sequel to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, based on the three-part Alien Costume storyline of the 1994 Spider-Man animated series.
Astronauts John Jameson and Paul Stevens discover a rock called Promethium X, said to be more powerful than plutonium, on a nearby asteroid. Unknown to them though, Promethium X also contains an alien symbiote which manages to break free and tries to consume the astronauts. Their space shuttle crashes on George Washington Bridge, and Rhino is sent by Kingpin* to steal the Promethium X. Spider-Man arrives on the scene and manages to save the astronauts, yet unknown to him, Eddie Brock is on the bridge too, and takes photos of him and Rhino. However, when J. Jonah Jameson arrives on the scene, Eddie frames Spider-Man for stealing the Promethium X from the shuttle, which leads to a $1,000,000 dollar bounty on Spider-Man's head. However, when he returned from the crash site, his suit was stained with what appeared to be Hudson River pollution. When Peter goes to bed, the substance oozes over him and gives him a nightmare, causing him to wake up hanging from a skyscraper in an unfamiliar new costume. The costume enhances Spider-Man's abilities. Meanwhile, Kingpin needs to gain some specially enhanced control rods to test the power of Promethium X, and he sends Rhino to steal the control rods for his machine. Spider-Man stops him, but almost loses himself to the corruptive influence of the new suit and nearly kills Rhino. He retreats back to the city, to ponder how the suit is changing him.

Spider-Man turns his attention to J. Jonah Jameson and warns him to call off the bounty, also mentioning Rhino and how Eddie Brock lied. After J.J. visits his hospitalized son, he finds out from him that Spider-Man was telling the truth about Brock deception, fires him, and calls off the manhunt for Spider-Man. Noticing the disturbing changes in his behavior, Spider-Man seeks the assistance of Dr. Curt Connors, who studies the suit and realizes that it is a living organism. He warns Spider-Man to get rid of it, but Peter insists on keeping it just a little longer. He then uses the symbiote's powers to find a clue in Eddie's apartment, only to run into Shocker, sent by Kingpin to destroy the evidence Brock has of Rhino’s presence at the crash site. Following Shocker leads Spider-Man to Alistair Smythe and the Promethium X, which Spider-Man steals. Kingpin and Smythe form a plan to kidnap John Jameson for ransom to regain the Promethium X. J.J. pleads for Spider-Man’s help, and the two of them go to an old church to deliver the ransom. Unbeknownst, to them, Eddie follows. After the ransom exchange is done, Shocker attacks, and the symbiote attempts to take over Peter fully, nearly causing him to kill the villain. Remembering how the symbiote was unusually weakened when earlier attacked with a sonic blaster, Spider-Man realizes that it is particularly sensitive to loud noises. He uses the church bells to weaken the symbiote, and it sloughs off Peter. Back at the Kingpin's headquarters, Smythe discovers why Spider-Man was so willing to trade the dangerous Promethium X back to them. As it turns out, Promethium X has an extremely short half-life, and in a matter of days it has already decayed into a harmless lump of lead. Meanwhile, the symbiote finds its way to Eddie, and bonds with him.

Spider-Man returns to his old costume, and soon came across Rhino and Shocker. Spider-Man was able to easily defeat Rhino, but Shocker manages to get the upper hand. However, an unknown ‘ally’ arrives and defeats the two villains himself. The new ‘ally’ proves to be Eddie Brock, who reveals himself as ‘Venom’. Spider-Man attempts to reason with Brock, but webs up Spider-Man and removes the hero's mask high over a crowded street. Venom allows Spider-Man to live, haunting his every step. Venom ruins a date with Gwen** and menaces Aunt May, until Peter decides to fight back. He Brock's apartment with newspaper clippings of his firing from the Daily Bugle, leads the villain on a calamitous chase to the launch of the newly-christened John Jameson probe. The tremendous noise from the rocket engines firing forces the symbiote off Brock, and Spider-Man webs the creature to the rocket. The symbiote is blasted into space, and Eddie Brock is sent to Ravencroft Asylum.

*If they can't get the rights to the character from 20th Century Fox, they could replace Kingpin with Silvermane, Don Fortunato, Hammerhead, Tombstone, an original character, or someone really obscure from the comics.
**If Gwen dies, or breaks up with Peter, they could always substitute Mary Jane or Felicia Hardy.
