Unknown to the people of the United States, a spaceship containing humanoid alien refugees fleeing an intergalactic war is forced to make an emergency landing on the planet Earth. Under orders from the current American President, the Pentagon takes steps to try and integrate these extra-terrestrials into society. The individuals and the families are given a new form of immigration licence - a red card to allow them to remain on terran soil. Amongst this group of off-worlders is a family, comprising of a married couple and their three children, who appear to be fourteen, sixteen and eighteen. The family are given human names and, as a form of administrative humour, the collective surname Comet. Such are the differences in their own biology and that of Earth that all five of them have extraordinary powers, which they have to hide, so as not to breach one of the conditions of them remaining on the planet. Not adhering to this rule would be punished by ‘blue door’ status(deportation from this world). This rule is put to the test, when one of the imigrant aliens is killed(leading to the ‘green triangle’ skin imprint clasification being administered after death) by an extremist terrorist group who regard Earth as the dominion of humans, not off-worlders. When a member of this organisation is killed in self-defence, the Comet family find themselves the target of reprisals, and decide to go on the run….
