Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming

The year is 1965. It's been 3 months since middle-aged Agent 007, James Bond, took down the Man with the Golden Gun. Now considering retiring from active duty, Bond is called back to London by M. He is assigned to keep a watchful eye on suspected heroin dealer Dr. Julius Gorner, a hateful enemy born with the hideous defect of a monkey's paw in place of his left hand. Joining forces with the mysterious and seductive Scarlett Papava, Bond's mission takes him from Paris to Persia, where he must stop Gorner's outrageous plot to spark war between the Soviet Union and Great Britain.
