The series is based on a group of four partners who are in the business of “simulation”, solving the problems and needs of their clients through what they call “operational sham” which usually consist on decieve who generate problems to their clients: they bosses, criminals, wives, widows, unscrupulous traders, etc..
They perform a process based on scientific method, the discover of the problem, presentation of hypotheses, claims and denials, investigations by the parties of both the customer, the part that is the problem, and always looking for the point of conflict. They use their own tactics and methods of law, psychology, theater, sociology, etc..
The Simulators' motivation is not altruistic, they aren't meant to change the world but to provide a useful service to people, they usually charge customers exactly the twice of the operating's cost and bind their customers to help them in future operations simulation (previous chapters' characters reappear in later episodes as supporting actors helping The Simulators, and it gives a sense of continuity to the series).
In the field of literature and TV, there are references or wink referring to Sherlock Holmes, Mission Impossible, the film Casablanca. The series has in common with the U.S. series Stingray, The A-Team, Vengeance Unlimited, and The Equalizer. His philosophy can be found in Parker Pyne investigates by Agatha Christie.
Logistics and planning. The group leader, responsible for planning and contact with clients. He only drinks Earl Gray tea, and after each successful operation, is seen smoking a cigar, the cigarette is always light by the person deceived. It is a widowed aristocrat of refined tastes, educated, intelligent, slightly less than 40 years, son of writer Marcus De Anderson, author of “The Mountain liar” who commit suicide by a state of severe depression and leaving his family bankrupt and heavily indebted, some people think that little duped to each creditor to release the family from debt, which leads him to discover his “vocation”. His birth name is Francis de Anderson, but after the death of his mother and his wife changed his name to Mark Samuells. Generally in the operations, his false name is “Lion Stofenmacher”.
Characterization, His role in the group is to perform the vast majority of the characterizations, or else, playing the key character of the operation. Unlike the rest of his teammates, has a very open personality, rather more carefree, relaxed and a very active sex life. Lives with several women at home (even so it costs to maintain fidelity with them), has artistic tendencies (known in this area) and it is not uncommon to see the experimentation of different recreational activities. In the raids often plays the role of various characters under the name “Maxwell Zingolli” (with exceptions). In the personality of Ravenna is mixed professional secrecy vision with their respective attitudes with liberal tendencies and a strong charisma.
Investigation. He is the group's investigater, is responsible for obtaining information about customers and others involved in the operations. Sensitive and loving animals (except snakes) and poetry. He believes in making love and not just sex, so it has no relations to love (and, in his words, not before 6 months of a relationship). He was married but his wife filed for divorce, devastating event in time for him. He was a journalist before joining the group. His full name is Gabriel David Mercury. In the raids, often plays the role of “Jacques Dupont”. It is the most sensitive and “honest” group. He enjoys listening to Disney songs.
Technical and mobility. His work in the group is to get the materials and information necessary to perform the operations (vehicles, parts, clothing, scenery, etc..), Sometimes played minor roles in them. He's always a tough stance and front to others and that's the kind of personality that wants to show, but in reality it is psychologically weaker than their peers believe. He, though not proved, not comfortable with the relationship “hostile” between four and has a sort of inferiority complex with respect to the role it plays in the group. Their attitude is usually tight and masculinity marked contrast to the sensitivity of Mercury, considering it a very “gooey”. It has a bright dog called Bitumen, which appears increasingly demonstrates its intelligence, independence and loyalty instead. Another thing contributing to the fragile psychological state is the fact LaMarche have had a complicated life, still in its infancy, mocked by a group of schoolchildren, and having fought in the war.
Due to poor conditions of many people with everyday problems, the group was overworked and was forced to delegate. The B-Team is a group formed parallel with his most faithful to perform menial jobs, while others deal with more complex cases.
Arthur Goodman, known as ‘The Assistant’ (Logistics and planning) is the assistant of the group, appears at the beginning of the series. He is a man of few words which do not know almost nothing about his past. It plays the same role as Samuells in the B-Team.
Joseph Finster (Characterization) Finster is one of the most faithful attendees of the Simulators, they succeeded in getting the company where he worked fired him for having no retirement age. In the second season always goes only with a black glove on his left hand in the final episode and asked why. This gives the impression as if he did not realize it was not and asked if they saw it.
Martin Vandall (Investigation): Vandall had an outstanding debt to a loan shark, Laguzzi, who threatened to execute his children if he did not pay on time. The simulators made then that Laguzzi cancel the debt.
Lucas Barnes (Technical and Mobility): The Simulators help to Barnes, who had a large debt, to win a fishing competition where the suspension of that debt or duplication was at stake.
Frank Mardsen: He was a swindler, who lived of making illusions to the mean people to be TV star, but he removed the money and then leave. Solitary and self-centered, very well trained, is a fan of the war hero movies and survival (as Rambo) envious of that life. Simulators made him believe that he participated in a reality show where they have to survive a year in The Inscrutable, just to keep much of their money and delete it from the urban existence. In the second season, he knows that everything was an (ironic) racketeering and begins its return to USA and find Ravenna, Samuells, LaMarche and Mercury to kill them. After hiring a private detective to do a story for the neutralization of a terrorist on board a plane by the Simulators, and make an identikit of the same with newspaper clippings of other people, in the last episode, is due to a trap set for Ravenna with the Federal Police, accusing him falsely of a crime, but boldly, this trick again, into believing that everything was training for a (false) larger mission, assassinate bin Laden.
Malloy Perman: Appears in the second season. A private detective hired by Mardsen to search out all about the simulators and find them. As he learn all about them, interesting and exciting is going more and more. It is quite irritating to Mardsen, has no objection to laugh in the face (for being deceived) although the latter would explode with anger, and worse, he passes with a wry expression of joy on his face, as if treating him as an idiot. Perman don't know that his client's goal was killed (believed to be seeking only to have his money back), when he learns, he refuses to get paid from Mardsen and decides to charge him with the police. This shoots him believing that killed him, then reveals that it was not because he had a bulletproof vest. Mark Perman, had a very depressing life, his wife left him believing he was a loser. He was suicidal, until he appeared Mardsen, who speaks of the “four crooks”. Thereafter, the investigation of grinding to The simulators became a reason to live and a source of inspiration. Perman failed to find the diary written by the father of Samuells, and the final episode he give it to Samuells. In the end, it is revealed that he was one of the new quartet delegated to replace them in their absence.
Pedro Velazco: A leading Mexican businessman of the dairy company where he works Joseph Finster. At first it was a repressed homosexual, but thanks to Mercury (who is pretending to be Roman, pianist), who gives him a kiss on the elevator, he can assume their true sexual status (being that, obviously, part of the operation). Then it reappears again for molesting Mercury to have something with him and assume his alleged homosexuality.
Satan: An eccentric and somewhat sinister character. It is a fat man, like other customers, is available to the simulators. It's handy when it comes to intimidating the people.
Patricio Mendez: He is a Spanish teacher born in Argentina. This works with simulators because they helped him in a sexual abuse case unfair to a student in 1994.
Official Harvey Orozco: A young police officer highly confused, but Very honesty. For her performance has earned the trust of Mark Samuells, to the point that to delegate the functions of the group with Malloy Perman. Like Samuells, is a fan of Sherlock Holmes.
