The story revolves around 83 year old Gregory who, living in the year 2009, told a horrible lie in the year 1957.
The movie starts with Gregory at a function for his friend Winston Redman’s 75th Birthday. Winston then announces that he is going to marry Gregory’s 39-year-old daughter. After the party, Winston tells Gregory that h has secretly, every year, having plastic surgery done, making him look no older than 45. He then asks Gregory not to tell his daughter, Vanessa, that he’s in fact 75 years old. The next day, Gregory goes to his friend, Jeremy Harris’s grave. (Jeremy was shot in 1958) he then finds a book titled “Jeremy’s Diary” After reading Jeremy’s diary, Gregory decides that he is not getting any younger, so he decides to live a bit He spends the next 4 years doing things such as bungee jumping and paintball.But one day, his wife, Janice, brings him a telephone. It is his daughter on the other side. Winston just died.After days of mourning, a man named Lionel Ersatz, visits Gregory.He claims that Gregory can go back to 1957 and restore order with everything.So that night Gregory goes into the machine Jerome built.He arrives a few hours later in London, but in 1957. He notices that he is no longer old, but the young man he was in 1957. After restoring every thing, he finds out that when a thief, named Caulkin O'Sullivan, approached him, he claimed to be Jeremy Harris. The next year, the thief’s cronies , killed Jeremy because Gregory refused to give him money.After going back to when Winston died, he found that Winston found out in someway to, and drank himself to death.Gregory goes back to the day he lied, and claims to be who he is. He then gives the thieves money
He returns to modern times and he is happy man. But Jeremy or Winston are still dead, but Gregory simply lies down on his bed and dies peacefully
In the conclusion, Gregory is buried next to this 2 friends.
