It has been a year and a half since Spiderman battled Venom & The Sandman, losing his childhood friend, Harry Osborne, in the process. Peter Parker is in his final year of college, and is thinking of entering a teaching training course, to help him to come to terms with the death of Harry and the demise of his relationship with Mary Jane Watson. In spite of their best efforts to resurrect their love for one another, the emotional fallout has proven too much. She has headed for Hollywood to try movie and TV acting. Parker is given the task to ease a student from Britain, Angelica Jones, into US college life. However, she is hiding a secret, which Parker (in his guise of Spiderman) discovers during an attempted heist on a convoy carrying gold bullion bars on their way to Fort Knox. The tyres on the theives' van have been melted, and Peter realises that Angelica is ‘Firestar’ (another name supplied by Jonah Jameson). Two experiments into animal DNA and into the restoration of human sight by a new kind of infra red treatment go wrong and two new villians emerge - Medusa (Prof Meredith Unwin-Sallinger) and The Lizard (Dr Connors). It's up to Spiderman and Firestar to stop them. However, one of their collaborative efforts goes badly wrong, and Jameson uses this incident to condemn the two heroes as killers. Will the inhabitants of New York turn against them? This crisis is compounded by Mary Jane's decision to stay out Peter's life permanently. Can Peter stop the threads of the most important aspects of his life from unravelling?
