He said he'd be back! And this time, he's the hero. The Terminator from the previous movie (same model, but different Terminator) goes to 1995 Los Angeles to protect 10-year-old John Connor, future leader of TechCom, from an even more advanced Terminator, a T-1000 made of mimetic polyalloy. John and the T-800 (the model of the protector) bust Sarah J. Connor out of Pescadero, where she's being held after an attempt to destroy Cyberdyne. Turns out that a Cyberdyne employee, Miles Bennett Dyson, is heading the Skynet project, not knowing that Skynet will, on August 29, 1997, be responsible for 3 billion deaths. Sarah was not too happy about it and wants to prevent the 3 billion deaths from even happening, even if it means killing Dyson. Dyson agrees to help her destroy Cyberdyne but loses his life as he blows up the building. Now the future lies in the battle between the T-800 and the T-1000.
