STAKES OUT by Tristan Hartup

After recently being diagnosed with terminal cancer, exhausted and cynical NYPD veteran Vincent Blackwell has already given up on life and is more than ready for death. But before he can go into early retirement, Blackwell is assigned to help break in his new brash yet naive rookie replacement Scott Evansson, as the two take on the case of keeping tabs on presumably corrupt New York congressman and presidential candidate Damien Cole whom Blackwell had uncovered evidence suspecting him of certain illegal practices. But things take a dark and unexpected turn as Blackwell and Evansson begin to look much further into Cole's shady activities, and eventually find themselves being preyed upon by a super-secret sinister underground society of bloodthirsty vampires who are using Cole as an instrument to fulfil an ancient apocalyptic prophecy. Forced to ally with a father-daughter duo of experienced vampire hunters, Blackwell and Evansson must venture forth into this dark underworld and do battle with the vampires to stop their prophecy from coming true, but as Blackwell's illness is getting worse, the very idea of vampiric immortality begins to greatly appeal to him.

MPA Rating: Rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, some sexual content/graphic nudity, drug references, and language throughout.

CHARACTERS:

Vincent Blackwell - A middle-aged exhausted veteran NYPD officer who has grown overly cynical and nihilistic towards everything around him made worse by his recent terminal cancer diagnosis.

Scott Evansson - A young brash yet naive rookie cop who Blackwell is assigned to train as his replacement, he's more optimistic towards police work than Blackwell is and acts to keep his nihilistic cynicism from getting the better of him.

Damien Cole - New York congressman and presidential candidate suspected of partaking in illegal practises and is secretly in league with an underground society of vampires, at first he seems to be the strong and confident head honcho but is just a massive weasely pushover.

Iylea - A 2000-year-old seductive and hypnotic yet powerful and ruthless vampire matriarch seeking to fulfil her centuries-old birthright by bringing about an ancient apocalyptic prophecy, she already has Cole under her influence and begins to draw Blackwell in as well.

Howard Luthor - An unhinged former priest turned veteran vampire hunter on an obsessive vengeful quest to rid the world of vampires after his wife was murdered by them.

Camille Luthor - Howard's troubled long-suffering daughter whom he had raised and trained to be just as a skilled vampire hunter as he is though all she wants is to live a normal life.
