Denny Berrymore is a normal high-schooler, who lives an unremarkable life with no friends and mainly bullies who pick him on for sharing almost the same name of famous young pop singer Dennie Berrymore.
Suddenly, Denny's life changes forever once he gets an e-mail from famous music manager Mickey Nicks telling him to go sing to a benefit concert. Despite thinking it was maybe a mistake, he decides to go after getting encouraged by his mom, and in the benefit concert, he surprisingly does an amazing job and Denny discovers that he may have a passion for singing.
This “little” mistake, caughts the attention of the singer Dennie Berrymore, who after seeing his performance, decides to take him into his wing and introduce him into the life of a celebrity.
Although, Denny's rise to fame and getting to meet the most famous singers in the charts seems exciting at first, he'll soon discover that the “friendship” that he has with Dennie the singer will slowly turn into a bitter rivalry, that will decide who is the best one in the music industry right now, either Denny or Dennie.
(May be a bit too confusing because of the names, but I wanted to share this movie idea from a comment I saw on YouTube, and thought it might make for a fun and satirical ensemble comedy and I was quite curious on who could helm it and act on it)
RATED R for sexual content including some graphic nudity, alcohol/drug use and strong language
INSPIRATIONS: Imagine a more comedic and satirical version of A Star is Born.
Denny Washignton (the high-schooler): He's a normal 17 year old boy whose quite introverted and just gets by in high-school, and that constantly gets picked on because he is so unremarkable and shares the same name of a way more attractive and charming singer. As the movie unfolds, and he discovers his passion for singing, he progressively becomes more charming and confident as he gets introduced into the life of a super famous singer (and that may involve sex and drugs).
Dennie Berrymore (the singer): He's a charismatic, handsome and talented mid 20s singer, who off-screen can be quite a douche. He is impressed by Denny's talents but scared at the same time that he may take his place, therefore, he decides to take him into his wing and be his mentor and friend during his rise to fame, but, he secretly wants him to fail. As the movie progresses and high-schooler Denny becomes more famous, Dennie progressively loses his popularity.
Mickey Nicks: He's a mid 40s music manager, record executive and investor who made famous various stars in the music industry, including Dennie Berrymore, who has quite a big friendship with him. He can be quite greedy and iresponsible at times but he cares for the well-being of his singers by acting cool to them. Due to him having a rough night and getting drunk, he mistakenly sends an e-mail to the wrong adress (being to the high-schooler Denny Berrymore), and while he was aware of the mistake he made, he is still impressed by Denny's talents and decides him to be his manager.
Melissa Berrymore: Denny's jaded but caring mom, who after getting divorced from her husband, just wants her son Denny to live a more exciting and more succesful life than his father. She encourages him hard in attending to the benefit concert that will change his life, and in everything that is fame related.
J-Shank: He is a famous rapper that has collaborated with many artists during his life. He seems quite easy-going and chill to Denny the high-schooler, but that's mainly because he smokes weed a lot. He is heavily inspired by Snoop Dogg.
Ariel Castle: She's a seductive young pop singer who has had quite a lot of boyfriends but somehow she sees something special in the high-schooler Denny. She colabs with him in a music video and that sparks rumors of him getting together with her. She's quite inspired by Ariana Grande and a bit of Taylor Swift.
Donna Gala: A 30 year old singer who has a phenomenal voice and has sang both catchy pop tunes to serious songs that had won her vatious awards, and has an extravagant clothing style. She's one of the main friends of Denny. Inspired by Lady Gaga.
Mr. Worthington: An old teacher who looks like a harsh man. He is very strict to his students (mainly Denny), but he can be quite surprisingly a softie and a fan boy on the inside when they talk about Dennie Berrymore's music.
Jake Berrymore: Denny's middle aged father and Melissa's ex husband. He was an unfortunate dad and lazy dad who spent all days watching football once he lost his job, which is why Melissa divorced him, for being so lazy and unremarkable. He shockingly feels “meh” towards his son becoming a star.
A famous actor and actress also make funny cameos during a scene when they get to be part of the music video that both Denny and Dennie create.
