UNCONVENTIONAL by Tristan Hartup

Sheltered and emotionally stunted teenager Mark Bolton has spent most of his life on the move with his paranoid and stressed out mother who had been desperately trying to keep his existence a secret from the rest of the world. From birth, Mark had inherited unique telekinetic powers from some unknown force and has been living on the run in order to avoid being apprehended by government officials out of the fear that he might be experimented on and possibly turned into a weapon of war. But Mark soon decides that he's had enough of this life and he just wants to be normal, so they eventually move to small and secluded town in northern California when Mark enrols in the local high school, as long as he promises to try the best he can to keep his abilities a secret. Though seen as an outcast and met with mild hostility with both his peers and his teachers, he's able to make a very small group of friends though it doesn't take them long to natural become suspicious of what Mark could be hiding. But when the school suffers a massive tragedy, Mark thinks there's something more to this than what people are letting on and so his natural curiosity encourages him to look further in and he decides to use his abilities to help investigate. Eventually, Mark finds himself entangled in a deadly conspiracy that the whole town has a part in, and also the forces that had been hunting Mark all his life are closing in.
