Keith Whitley was from the small town of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Ever since he learned to talk he dreamed of becoming a country singer. He got his start as a teenager in a bluegrass group with Ricky Skaggs, The two young teens would be discovered by Ralph Stanley. It was in 1983 that Whitley moved to Nashville to pursue his solo career. It wasn't long after that Whitley skyrocketed to Country Music stardom with hits like “When You Say Nothing at All.” and “Don't Close Your Eyes”. Whitley would marry fellow country artist Lorrie Morgan, together they had one son Jesse, and a daughter Lorrie had from a previous marriage. Keith never managed to give up his greatest demon alcohol. He died at the age of 34 on May 9, 1989 due to alcohol poisoning. Though he died young Keith has remained an important figure in the history of country music.
