(The first of the ten installments in the “CryptoVerse” series)
Off the coast of Brazil, a group of miners find something at their work site. They are soon mutilated and drained of blood by an unknown entity wreaking havoc along the island. A task force is sent to the island to rescue the CEO of the company who is still alive and stationed somewhere on the island. When they get there, they find very little signs of recent human activity. Soon they are being hunted by a creature that is legendary in folklore, unknown to science and was initially believed to only have killed life stock, goats in particular.
Characters:
Ryan: The lead character, main protagonist and leader of the task force.
Kyle: Second in command of the task force and expert in close quarters combat.
Jennifer: A tracker for the task force, as well as their linguist and most intelligent member.
Lee: The task force's demolition expert, as well as their most unhinged and unpredictable member.
Joey: The task force's sniper.
Antonio: A tracker for the task force. Initially born and raised in Venezuela, he knows of the legend of “The Old Man on the Island” from his childhood.
David: The heavy for the task force.
Jason: Still alive and stationed somewhere on the island, he is the company CEO that the task force are sent to rescue. Despite being a businessman, he is surprisingly self-reliant and, if it has to come down to it as being a last resort, he is capable of putting up a fight.
“The Old Man on the Island”: A nameless and reclusive character in his 70's who is believed by some of the natives of South American countries to be a living man on the island off of the coast of Brazil and his mystery to them is just as legendary as the folklore of the creature itself. As the legend is told, he successfully battled the creature, mainly believed to only kill life stock (goats in particular), on a few occasions. However, the story, as well as his existence, are disputed. While some believe the story to be true, others believe it to be a myth. As it turns out, he, along with the legend, are real when the task force, through happenstance, discover him and learn of his knowledge of the creature in their search for the CEO.
Lloyd (post-credits introduction): A recurring character who is the the bridge that connects all of the CryptoVerse films together as taking place within the same world as the other whether he is present or not (out of the ten, he is only absent in four of them). Once working for the government and eventually going rogue against his mainstream colleagues, he is a scientist who is disgraced within the community for his belief in the existence of cryptid creatures and world traveling investigations into them. Never married, no children and he does not stay in a single location long enough for anywhere to be called his home as he is always on the move (he only stays in a single location long enough to do one of his investigations before moving on elsewhere). From one day to the next, it is an uncertainty of when he will show up and where (for example; if he is in New Jersey one day, he could be in Brazil on the next).
