Astro Alice by Andrew Milito

Alice Lowery is a young teenager gifted with a strong knowledge of technology - unfortunately, such passion for a tomboyish hobby has led her to be ostracized from her peers. Estranged from just about everyone, even her parents, Alice makes the most of her miserable situation through her vivid imagination.

One night, Alice goes to sleep in her room… but doesn't wake up there. Instead, she finds herself in a far-off galaxy not dissimilar to our own, but defined by retro robots, rocket packs, and ray guns. Wondering if this is all just one of her conjured up scenarios, she soon finds herself crossing paths with Sam Gunn, a cocky and charismatic space agent drawn to Alice's plight based on claims of a legendary prophecy that she may be the key to. The two unlikely heroes team up and traverse the dangers of the galaxy, uncovering an ancient mystery that could put the galaxy in peril.
