Samuel Flowers is a cynical yet lonely internet personality who rambles about his relationships and troubles with the real world, until one day he discovers a cryptic and unusual message from one of his followers. It turns out to be an invitation to a new underworld of geek culture based on fandoms of old/new series, movies, games, which creates a new spark within Samuel to float back to the top with his popularity. Without caring so much about his position within the internet persona vicinity, Samuel befriends the man responsible for sending him the message and finds himself attending Comic-Con events that reinvent the young man.
But what Samuel doesn't know is whether or not the members of the Geek Culture are truly his friends, seeing that his feelings were the only reason why they invited him in the first place to reinvent Geek Culture, or if the young man's doubts are returning to him. His life comes crashing down again as his fits of cynicism return and damage his relationships with his new friends.
MPAA: Rated PG-13 for thematic elements including sexual content, brief language and some comical violence.
Note: This movie would be a little like Ingrid Goes West, except the trends wouldn't be totally focused and glamorized, but focuses on Samuel's change from being a cynical loner without humor to a newfound member of the geek culture and then falling back down to a different dark place. No ambiguity here, but more of a character analysis type of film.
