Based on the characters by Peter Benchley.

The film is set on Amity Island, 45 years after the original shark attack that occurred in 1975 (Jaws 2-4 did NOT occur).

Michael Brody, now 55, is married and has 2 children (one pre-adult son and one teenage daughter). They are living in the same bay home on Amity Island that Michael grew up in. The film begins with the sun rising over the sea, just to the east of Amity. The distant sound of seagulls chirping slowly turns into a catholic strain of bag pipe music. The camera focuses on a crowd of people surrounding a black tent on the edge of Chappa Cemetery. Crying faces and mourning eyes fall upon the casket as it is lowered into the ground. As the ceremony comes to an end and the dirt is laid upon the casket, the camera focuses on an elderly woman who walks feeblishly toward to the back of a gentleman. This gentleman, whom is Michael Brody, is currently fixated on the grave of the newly buried soul; so whenever the elderly woman quickly places her cold hand on his shoulder, he becomes startled. “Oh dear, I didn't mean to startle you Michael” the elderly woman quickly stated. The elderly woman was Margie Hooper, the widow of just buried Matt Hooper. Matt was an oceanographer and shark biologist whom encountered the first shark attack of Amity Island with Michael's father. This was his burial.
