(Since the poll for my superhero deconstruction idea was unanimously positive, I'll be working on that as often as I can. It's a very basic idea for now, but ideally it's a very sprawling story so it may be a while. In the meantime, I'll continue to post smaller ideas I have, like this one!)
Based on the famous Eagles song of the same name, Hotel California is the story of Hollywood screenwriter Joe Fenley. Fenley is relatively notable in the industry, having won numerous awards for his work. Currently, however, he's been on a streak of misfires, and he suffers from a great bout of writer's block while writing his latest script. In an attempt to get work done, Fenley plans a trip away from the hustle and bustle of Beverly Hills. One night, as he's driving through the open desert, he's hit with a sudden rush of exhaustion, but is fortunate enough to stop near the Hotel California. With no other choice, he decides to stay the night. The hotel, while not particularly fancy, proves to be a pleasant enough residence at first; however, as the night progresses, things at the Hotel California take increasingly mysterious turns, and the darker underbelly of the hotel becomes more apparent.
(The literal lyrics of the song can give you a general idea of what would happen towards the end of the film: safe to say, it'd get a little weird.)
*Lauren Donner - the young concierge working the front desk of the hotel. She makes Fenley's acquaintance early into his stay, but her motivations and relation to the hotel's darker side isn't so black-and-white.
*Donald Hughes - the captain at the hotel's bar and dining area.
*Randall Phillips - the elderly manager of the Hotel California. Phillips is almost entirely mute, and mostly keeps to himself by being closed off in his office.
Inspirations: Get Out, The Shining, The Neon Demon. Rated R for disturbing violent content, bloody images, and language.
