Personally, if people were to ask me if I were to make a new Ghostbusters movie (being a sequel or a reboot or whatever), how would I have done it, this is what I personally would do:
I would have the movie be loose continuation of the first two movies, it wouldn't be continuing the story of the original characters but it would be set in the same universe. It would be set in modern day in a time where the ghostbusters' fame has faded by this point, some people would still have memories the what happen and some people still acknowledge them from time to time, but overall no one thinks about them anymore and no one hasn't done anything about it since. It would be focussing on a new group (preferably a mixed-gender group) in a new city (say Los Angeles), it's a group of young people who had suffered from supernatural incidents at points in their lives and they looked up to the original ghostbusters as icons and are inspired by them to try and reignite the ghostbusting business, they're not exactly scientists but they do have scientific knowledge, and one thing leads to another and of course they end up being to only ones to save the world from a massive supernatural threat. And by the end of movie, millions of people are inspired and decide to create different branches of ghostbusting creating a global business.
MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for supernatural action and peril, and language including sexual references.
