28 DAYS LATER (American Remake) by John Silver, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland

My vision and idea for an American remake of 28 Days later.

Original Plot: Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary. (IMDB)

My Changes:

- The Rage virus would be kept a mystery, though there would be hints of what it does to people and how it was created without giving much away.
- The original setting was in London; the remake would take place in Atlanta (nod to The Walking Dead) and later end near Washington, DC.
- Jim was a cyclist in the original; in the remake he is a former doctor with no knowledge of the Rage Virus.
- The zombies would run and sprint faster to build more intensity to chases and action.
- There wouldn't be too much action (the military action sequences) but there would still be chases, fight scenes and include the third act involving the military ambush.
- Most of the zombie attacks would take place during the morning although there are certain moments when the night would be appropriate for suspense.
- A claustrophobic horror atmosphere would be added along with ambiguity as to what has happened to humanity and whether the virus would be airborne.
- In the original, the British soldiers were the antagonists; in the remake there will be a rebellion of survivors who are actually cannibals with more malevolent intentions (think of the Saviors from Walking Dead).
- Mark was killed off in the original before the journey began; I would allow Mark to live near the end of the second act to develop his character a little more.
- Frank would be a mix of jolly old Santa Claus and Howard from 10 Cloverfield Lane, making Jim suspect he might be psychologically disturbed.
- Hannah is an optimistic and sweet 17-19 year old girl and Frank's niece who had lost her parents to the Rage Virus and looks at Frank as her father figure.
- I would add humanity to the characters instead of going the traditional overly serious routine I add to some of my entries.
- The ending would be a little different - after Selena and Hannah drive off with Jim, the screen cuts to black, leaving a cliffhanger as to whether or not all three survive, but allow viewers to make their own conclusions.

MPAA: Rated R for strong violence and gore, language and nudity.
