47-year-old Michael Cromwell is one of the legendary B-Movie directors of all time – with a peculiar vision of stories ranging from zombie citizens battling against the human government to a society of animals living like humans and a full-grown invasion of octopuses carrying deadly ink as a flesh-eating virus– with no big-name actors and small budgets from his previous work as an actor.
But Michael’s obsession with low-budget movies often results in the man dissasociating himself from reality and aims to make his content “blockbuster material”, ending in him being shunned upon people and ostracized by his former movie-star friends.
And above all, Michael struggles to make one of his last movies in the industry before he retires, with the people he works with questioning his mentality and central mission to create a rip-off to one of the most respected blockbuster superhero movies of all time, with a few shady secrets behind his plan.
Influences: Ed Wood, The Disaster Artist, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy, and Birdman.
MPAA: Rated R for strong language and comical violence throughout, including sexual images and themetic material.
Note: This movie is real time, focusing on the events of Michael finishing up his recent movie to the process of setting up his final B-Movie and the secret getting out to the public, which will make or break his career and impact his personal life. All the characters will have a fair amount of screen time and will be filmed through different perspectives as to what they deal with during the period of making the “superhero” movie on-set and post-production.
Michael Cromwell – 47-year-old overly passionate and enthusiastic director; his overly strange behavior and method of work often sets a hilarious but usually quick-paced atmosphere. (His character is a mash-up of Tommy Wiseau, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Wood.)
Charlotte Atkins – Mid 30’s woman who struggles financially due to her nature as a former B-List actress and an injury that ended her career as a stuntwoman.
Brett Lambert – Early 60’s boom mic operator who has a way of being sharp and straightforward with his vulgar humor. It is implied that he was a former local comedian.
Lucas Norton – An aspiring young actor in his early 20’s who is frustrated with lack of advanced-level jobs and constant rejection, often looking for ways to leave Woods’s production.
Bridget Manslow – Professional and charming actress who hasn’t found her big break yet; she is curious of Michael’s oddity and takes a deep interest in him.
Tommy Sanders – An intermediate-level executive in the film industry and Michael’s good friend who secretly believes that the director is going insane and trying too hard to fit in with the big-name directors.
Griffin Jones – Michael’s fellow assistant and VFX artist who enjoys making B-Movies.
Alexandra Stark – Former porn star who now lives out of the limelight due to ageism and excited to work with Michael.
Francis Winnesfield – Michael’s former agent back in the director’s old days of stardom.
Jordan McDonnell – A-List actor and Michael’s former friend who wants nothing to do with him and his “cheesy” movies.
