Part two of Volume I of my DC Cinematic Universe “rebirth” series.
It's a dark stormy night in Gotham City, and Arkham Asylum is in chaos. The Joker has escaped from containment and is holding Commissioner James Gordon and his daughter Barbara within the confines of the dark, grimy prison, and will execute them both if anyone on the outside attempts to intervene. Anyone but one: his antithesis, the mysterious vigilante known as The Batman. Armed with his wits and limited technology, The Batman, alongside his young partner Jason Todd, must descend into the depths of Arkham Asylum, where he also faces the mammoth Bane, the monstrous Killer Croc, the femme fatale Poison Ivy, and the psychological warfare utilizing Scarecrow.
My idea is very much inspired by claustrophobic horror films, as well as siege films such as Green Room, Assault on Precinct 13, Dredd, etc. The movie would not be an origin story, although the Scarecrow portions of the film would flash back to the death of Bruce Wayne's parents, his martial arts training, his first encounter with Jason Todd, and so on, and would serve as extra character development for The Batman as a character.
Main inspiration: The video game “Batman: Arkham Asylum”.
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, disturbing images, and language.
