THE LONG WAY TO LOVE by John Silver, Columbia Pictures, and Relativity Media

Idea taken for Tristan Hartup's challenge.

High school is always the best place to start drama, start romance, but even the best of the drama can last longer through the beginning of college.

Jessica Blake is a stuck-up, fashion-loving, beautiful girl who runs her clique with an iron fist. Her rules? No shy guys, no geeks, no losers, no bums, and no collaborating with any other cliques.

While she lives her new found life as a snotty rich girl, some of Jessica's friends are more attracted towards her money instead of her lifestyle as a queen bee. Despite falling into a few feuds with other cliques, Jessica still faces a moral dilemma as to what will happen if her clique is threatened during or after high school.

That is, until introverted outsider Michael Hawke from a former clique in the same high school falls into Jessica's hit list of humiliation and ignorance by the girls, but somewhere inside Jessica is secretly attracted to him.

Michael struggles to live a normal life after leaving behind his past of unruly behavior in order to move on with a better life, which disgusts his old friends, and Jessica. He is tall and attractive, but often hot-headed like his father, due to dealing with being in hot water because of his pretty but uninterested girlfriend and worries over his future.

Jessica takes her chances to manipulate Michael but cannot bring herself to do so and ends up falling in love with him, despite Michael's perception towards Jessica, her clique, and all the drama he tries to evade. At first, they start off as a love-hate friendship, which begins to cripple Jessica's clique and her image as a snobby woman, as well as drawing the attention of her rival, Hannah Barrymore, another ruthless but charming girl from Britain.

Both Jessica and Michael's lives begin to fall apart - Jessica begins to lose touch with her friends while Michael is too focused on his second chance at life and what the future may bring him. But every cloud has a silver lining when Jessica rethinks her life as the big bully who enjoyed pain for pleasure and Michael as the man with a chance to experience real love.

MPAA: Rated R for mature thematic elements involving teen sexuality and nudity, partying, brief drug content, and language.

Comparison Pitch: Clueless meets The First Time meets The Spectacular now.

Note: I wouldn't make it all cheesy like your typical chick flicks you see today. I'd create an ending as to leave it up to readers to comment on this entry to decide what happens to both Jessica and Michael in the end, whether they stay together or end up parting ways with different lives. Feel free to make conclusions!

Also, I wouldn't just put the central focus on Jessica and Michael as a couple, I'd also pay attention to their lifestyles and the struggles they face along the way.

Other Characters:

Sabrina Jordan - Jessica's childhood friend from elementary school who is her wing woman for boys she is attracted to.
Madeline Watkins - Jessica's other best friend from high school who is the only one staying true to the clique's rules.
Riley Graham - Michael's former best friend in the Bad Boys clique who seemingly accepts his friend's decision to move on with life.
Lisa Johnson - Michael's pretty but unsupportive ex-girlfriend who moves on with another guy.
Valerie and Hank Blake - Jessica's middle-aged parents who have found their claim to fortune but still struggle financially and with their relationships.
Sean O'Conner - One of the leaders of the Bad Boy clique who is best friends with Riley. (This is also a sort of spin-off to this character from one of my entries, A Merry Holiday.)
Nicholas Hawke - Michael's older brother who struggles with his sexuality and acts as a temporary guardian to him.
Angela Hawke - Michael and Nicholas's easy-going but determined mother.
Zoey Boswell - Obese girl who finds a couple of friends in high school but struggles with bullying and the Bad Boy cliques targeting her. (Also a sub spin-off to another character from A Merry Holiday.)
