RED RIVER by John Silver and Jeremy Saulnier

Anthony Pollack is a 55-year-old man who lives a quiet life in the rural town of Minnesota as a farmer of his own coffee and crop plantations. Despite being offered several business deals by several competitors, the man prefers to hold his own and deviate from the lifestyle of competition after some bad business deals went wrong in which he lost his wife in the past to a rich and cunning investor known as Perry Noland.

But one day while harvesting his crops, Anthony runs into the man who had taken everything away from him, and offers a deal that he can’t refuse – $15 million for partial control over his farm and a chance to open another farm with much bigger land in Las Vegas. Despite the deal sounding too good to be true, Anthony reluctantly accepts the offer and begins to enter the underworld of the rich lifestyle after witnessing some of his old friends back away from Anthony’s method of avoiding competition.

It isn’t until Anthony’s estranged daughter from the past appears at her father’s new home in Las Vegas and warns him to stay away from Perry, who is very corrupt and backstabbing. Everything is too late for the man when the ruthless investor threatens him into killing some of the middle-class competitors who are attempting to ruin his business.
What started off as a chance to get rich results in deadly consequences as Anthony and his daughter evade corrupt police and anyone loyal to the individual responsible for damaging the man’s life.

Comparison Pitch: Run All Night Meets There Will Be Blood Meets Casino (Short story by John Grisham).

MPAA: Rated R for strong violence and pervasive language, brief sexuality/nudity, and some drug content.

Note: This is my idea for an official follow-up to Jeremy Saulnier’s “Color” Trilogy.
