A young newly-wed couple is moving to a big city when they are involved in a car wreck, which leaves the husband in a coma. While in the hospital, the young man is revealed to have Multiple Personality Disorder. The majority of the film focuses on the man's mind as his many personalities fight to gain control, and also attempt to keep his dark past a secret. Meanwhile, brief scenes of his wife are shown as she attempts to assist the doctors in waking her husband.

Cole Gallagher: A young newlywed man who is in a coma following a car accident. Cole has a dark past, and attempts to gain control of his many personalities in order to return to his life.

Cole's personalities include Johnny, who acts exactly like Danny Zucco of Grease; Samuel, a shy nerd who wants to experience control in order to boost his confidence; Arthur, a wise old man who wishes to keep Cole in charge; and Ian Black, a manifestation of Cole's dark past as a violent criminal.

Sarah Gallagher: Cole's young wife, who is largely uninjured in the crash and attempts to assist the doctors in awaking Cole.

Dr. Maxwell Crawford: Cole's doctor, who believes that only science and medicine can save Cole.

Dr. Rachel Tyler: Dr. Crawford's young assistant, who thinks Cole is in control and will awake when he is ready.
