In 2255 of a reality where the genders of most of the characters in 2009's “Star Trek” are swapped, Jane T. Kirk is an Iowa townie who's exceptionally bright yet spends her days stirring up trouble. Since the death of her mother, Georgina Kirk, when she was a child, Kirk has lived an aimless life. One night, she is challenged by Starfleet captain Christine Pike to make something out of her dismal life. Kirk accepts Pike's challenge and thus joins Starfleet, becoming friends with one Dr. Lea McCoy.
Three years later, Kirk lands on thin ice when she cheats on a crucial test and is reined in by a half-human/half-Vulcan instructor Commander Spock. Kirk and Spock immediately butt heads, but before more sparks can fly, Starfleet receives a distress call from Spock's home planet Vulcan and a rescue mission is launched, during which Kirk is sneaked aboard the USS Enterprise by McCoy. Soon, Kirk realizes that Starfleet is heading into a trap set by Nera, a crazed Romulan who's somehow traveled into the past from hundreds of years into the future to exact revenge on Spock. Now Kirk and Spock must put their differences aside and lead the Enterprise crew in a dangerous fight to save the Federation from Nera's interstellar rampage.
NOTE: Names for some of the characters are taken from “Parallel Lives,” a “Star Trek” comic.
