Since receiving the blue scarab from his recently dead mentor, Dan Garrett, Ted Kord has been trying to figure out why it won't respond to him. That is, until one day, when Jaime, the new intern hired by Ted's partner, Booster Gold, touches the scarab, and it immediately bonds to him, as well as, though unknown to them at the time, getting the attention of The Reach, the alien race who created it. Now the three, with the help of some (uninvited) friends, must protect El Paso from an alien invasion.
