Eager to live a normal life, away from solving crime and unmasking murderers, Tommy and Tuppence Beresford purchase a newsagents/convenience store in a Lake District town, where they plan to move to with their daughter, and close down their detective agency once and for all. However, a twenty year-old, unsolved murder becomes the talk of the town, when a young woman is killed in exactly the same way as the original victim. The town's mayor, hearing of the Beresford's talents as private detectives, employs them to conduct one final investigation, before embracing life as joint shop owners.
