The Rook: On Her Majesty's Supernatural Secret Service by Daniel O'Malley

From the bookjacket: "The body you are wearing used to be mine." So begins the letter Myfanwy Thomas is holding when she awakes in a London park surrounded by bodies all wearing latex gloves. With no recollection of who she is, Myfanwy must follow the instructions her former self left behind to discover her identity and track down the agents who want to destroy her. She soon learns that she is a Rook, a high-ranking member of a secret organization called the Chequy that battles the many supernatural forces at work in Britain. She also discovers that she possesses a ...

Princess of Darkness by Dan Ashley

Lori Driver has been left at home to finish her University dissertation while her parents go on holiday in Spain for a few weeks. In that time Britain falls foul of a new strain of swine flu that causes the bodies of dead animals to reanimate. The American Military is way too coincidentally at hand to deal with the situation but within ten days, the UK falls foul of the pandemic known as Marionettes Syndrome and gets back up to finish off the surviving population. All alone at home and with a zombified pervert neighbour stalking her wherever she goes, ...

My problem is I know of only a few non-white Brits, none of whom I can see in the roles.

Red Dwarf by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor

On board the mining ship Red Dwarf, the slovenly and lazy chicken soup machine repairman Dave Lister is sentenced to eighteen months in suspended animation for smuggling an unquarantined cat on board. Three million years later, he is revived to discover he is the sole surviving crew member on board the ship following a nuclear disaster, and very probably the last human being alive in the universe. But he is not alone. Also on board is HOLLY, the senile computer powering the ship; an intangible hologrammatic version of Lister's pompous and cowardly immediate superior, Arnold Rimmer; "The Cat", a humanoid ...
