Death On The Nile by Agatha Christie

Jacqueline Du Belfort, the illegitimate daughter of a Rochdale-born parlour maid and a French count, falls in love with Simon Doyle, who also hails from Rochdale, the poorly paid assistant of a real estate tycoon. When Simon loses his job as a result of asking for a raise to pay for his wedding, Jacqueline has no choice but to ask her best friend at boarding school, the American heiress Linnet Ridgeway to give him gainful employment. Seven months later, Linnet is on her honeymoon with her husband - Simon Doyle!! A vengeful Miss Du Bellfort has been tailing the two of them, determined to make them both suffer for their betrayal. Hercule Poirot tries to reason with her not to go any further down this road, but his words make no difference. On a cruise down the Nile, a few days later, Mrs Doyle is shot through the head. Jacqueline is immediately thought to be the top suspect, but she has a cast iron alibi, leading Poirot to suspect that one of the other passengers might be her killer.
