When Travis McGee and his economist friend Meyer go on a fishing trip down to the Florida Keys, they make a startling catch one night--a woman is dropped off one of the bridges, a cement block tied to her feet, close enough to their boat for Travis to rescue her. When Vangie, as she introduces herself, begins to tell her story, she spins a tale of a deadly confidence racket. Women working the local cruise ships, seducing lonely men who are flush with cash, then splitting the cash with hulking confederates who dispose of the marks--it sounds exotic. But when Vangie turns up dead a few days after McGee and Meyer return to Fort Lauderdale (Bahia Mar, Slip F-18), it's clear that her story is all too true. With the help of Meyer and aspiring actress Merrimay Lane, Travis vows to bring the whole gang down.
