Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has one of his toughest cases: Teenage suburbanite Emma Campano has been kidnapped, and there are a dead boy and girl at the Campano's home--one of them killed by Emma's mother Abigail, who mistook him for one of the criminals. As Will races to find Emma before it's too late he has a whole flock of complications to deal with. Emma's father Paul Campano, knew Will when they were boys, and retains a load of hostility for Will. Will's demanding boss, Amanda Wagner, insists that he work with Atlanta PD detective Faith Mitchell on the case--knowing well that Faith has her own axe to grind with Will. And Will's handicap, dyslexia, is something he struggles against daily.
