The extremist group whose actions led the Comet family fleeing their suburban lifestyle widens its list of targets to the supporters of President Arrington, the one who allowed the aliens to stay on planet Earth. These murders begin to divide the American people's views on the rights of these humanoid extra-terrestrials to be on this world, and those who shift from acceptance of their presence to opposition to it start to take the law into their hands. As the Comets move from one place to another, they face open hostility from various humans. They eventually find shelter with Venus Asimov, another alien immigrant given a sci-fi based name. However, Kristen is suspicious of Venus's motives: is she really on the side of the family?
