It is 2027. A time when cutthroat multinational corporations have developed their operations beyond the control of national governments. Sarif Industries, an up-and-coming biotechnology firm specialising in human cybernetic enhancement, is one of them. After a brutal attack on its Detroit-based headquarters, Sarif's mortally wounded director of in-house security Adam Jensen is forced to undergo radical life-saving surgeries that replace large areas of his body with advanced prostheses. Upon returning to work, he must respond to an act of industrial terrorist sabotage at its primary R&D facility, and becomes embroiled in the global politics of the human augmentation movement in the search for those responsible for the attacks.
