Johan et Pirlouit (Johan and Peewee) by Peyo

The setting lies in the Middle Ages in Europe. Johan serves as a brave young page to the king, and Pirlouit functions as his faithful, if boastful and cheating, midget sidekick. Johan rides off to defend the meek on his trusty horse, while Pirlouit gallops sporadically behind on his goat, named Biquette. The pair feel driven by their duty to their king, and by the courage to defend the powerless. During a feast organized for the king, Johan and Pirlouit meet a Smurf (little elf), who asks them to help his people. After a long trip Johan and Pirlouit arrive to the region, and there they find the Smurf village devasted by a dragon. The dragon is under the obedience of Monulf, a profiteer who uses the Smurfs for the extraction of diamonds in a cave.
