When she is eight years old, Kerry George, learns that her mother, Tina, is expecting a child as a result of an affair with another man. Consequently, her parents divorce, and her mum leaves Manchester with her lover for America. Twenty-one years later, Kerry, is in the United States, working as a reporter for a New Jersey newspaper, but it is an unrewarding job. When a better position becomes available at the Los Angeles Times, she decides to go for it, and she makes the necessary travel arrangements. However, her plane gets diverted to the airport at a small American town, and she is forced to make the rest of the journey by a hired car. An accidental double-booking leads to Kerry coming face-to-face with her half-sister, Jennifer Sharman, an actress who is heading back to L.A. At first, they can't stand the fact that they have to share a vehicle, but as the journey continues, their relationship starts to improve.
