A "reboot" of my favorite movie growing up? Sure!
Looking for the perfect Christmas present for his son, struggling inventor Rand Peltzer ends up in an antique shop in Chinatown. There he finds a strange creature called a "mogwai" and decides it will make the perfect pet. The shop's owner, "Grandfather" refuses to sell the mogwai, but his grandkid secretly hands the mogwai over to Rand, quickly giving him 3 very important rules: 1) Keep them away from light. Light hurts them, and sunlight can kill them. 2) Never get them wet. 3)Most important of all, no matter how much they cry, no matter how much they beg, never feed them after midnight.
Rand's teenage son Billy quickly bonds with the mogwai, whom he names Gizmo. But when he accidentally pours water on Gizmo, the mogwai multiplies. Soon, Gizmo's mischievous new siblings, led by the sinister Stripe trick Billy into feeding them after midnight. They transform into scaley green monsters called "Gremlins".
Stripe and the Gremlins begin spreading chaos and havoc all over the small town of Kingston Falls. It's up to Billy, his girlfriend Kate, and Gizmo to stop them.
