Edwardian London sets the scene for this look at society manners. Jealous of her husband's interest in a mysterious older woman, Mrs. Erlynne, Lady Windermere attempts to find out about her. Unbeknownst to her, Mrs. Erlynne is really her own mother, divorced twenty years before. Lord Windermere is trying to help her come back into society under a pseudonym. In a jealous snit Lady Windermere meets her ardent admirer, Lord Darlington, in his rooms, but she is saved from scandal by a selfless act of her mother, who had followed her, ruining her own chances to return to the social structure.
