The planet Krypton is on the verge of destruction by the evil Kata-Zor. Jor-El sends his son, Kal-El to a planet that will protect him and guide him to becoming one of the most legendary figures to set foot on Earth. Superman - The Last Son of Krypton.
I posted Welling mostly cause I cant really see ANY big star filling those tights.
However my secret desire is to see the reeves legacy go on
George Reeves
Christopher Reeve
And now...... Keanu Reeves.
Just as long as he does'nt say "whoa... I can fly)
"He's doing his Superman thing again"
Interesting article, if Superman was rasied in the UK
Michael Chiklis's character does a lot of bad/evil/unmoral stuff in The Shield... I think he could pull of Lex Luthor pretty well.
I agree taht Tom Welling is a bad actor and should not get the part but I'll disagree about "Smallville" being a bad show and "The WB" being a bad network. The WB is the most underrated network on TV. Better than FOX nad UPN nad it rivals ABC.
I still think they should make him from a different country, they did it with Spiderman

Great, so now they'll be outsourcing our superheroes as well... :)
Seriously, in practice it makes good business sense to expand on a franchise like that to get more people (a completely different demographic) to identify with these charcaters. They'll make a mint if it's done right.

Well looks like they've mercifully passed over Tom Welling and gone with a relative unknown for the part of Clark / Superman.
Thank goodness that's over with.
Now we can obsess over Lois and Lex...
Superman Returns is being done all wrong. If you are going to imortalize one of the most iconic characters in history, do it in a way that will be both correct in comic history, and in current recognition. If you are going to make a film of Superman it must be done right, lie so:
A) Not one film, but three, all filmed at once (like the Lord of the Rings), and have the story covering all three films.
The first film about how and why Clark Kent decided to be Superman, he didn't simply make a costume and become the worlds greatest hero, it can't be that easy. Larger obstacles, thicker drama from inside the character. The second film being the death of superman, the doomsday effect, not just on Metropolis, but on the entire world. Maybe a tie in on how Doomsday is actualy a different species from Kryptonian, causing the suns rays to increase his strength, making him able to kill Superman. The funeral for the hero at the end of the second film would be visualy incredible, seeing characters such as the Flash, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, all out of costume and in everyday clothes to pay respects to the hero. Finaly the third film, the second reign of Superman, this is about the return of Superman, but more inportantly, the reign of Cyborg Superman, yes Cyborg Superman. A creation of Lex Corp, fueled by a mix of kryponite and Superman's blood, not attainable till his death. With Superman's return, the fight between he and the Cyborg Superman would be the greatest battle ever to be seen on film. Ranging all over the world and coming down to the final return of Superman. And there you have Superman done right for film.
B) Keep Tom Welling to play Superman on screen, he may not look old enough now, which is why you finish Smallville within the next five years, then take two years off to let Tom Welling grow older, do other things, then come back to his roots. Tom Welling is this generations Superman, why ruin that with a completly new person and a completly new universe of Superman on film?
If the people who actualy have control on the decisions made about these films could read this, or at least hear out the logical and justified reasoning behind this characters presence on film, i believe Superman fans from everywhere would finaly see Their hero done right on film.
Ummm.. Even through they have already put a face the the Superman...why not the Rock. He was so good looking on the SNL skit about Superman. When I think OF Superman I wanna think he is gorgeous!!!! I am not getting that with this unknown. As for lex I think Billy Zane is a good pick. Um and Louis.......I like Jennifer Connely.

the Rock as Superman?...hey while you are at it, let's get Tom Green to play Jesus, or Britney Spears to play Mother Theresa. It's good...do it...do it, it won't hurt you...people will line up the block for it...c'mon it won't hurt anyone...nobody wants movies with any credibilty... it the wanted that...they'd move to Canada or Uruguay or anywhere BUT Hollywood. Glad you liked Baby Geniuses 2, more of that to come. Can ya feel it? My people will call your people. Ciao...I'll be in my trailer
The Death of Superman is so fanboy. Who wants to see Superman die? Who really is going to spend $10 to see a movie because it has a "funeral" where you get to see a bunch of superheroes out of costume (and btw, how would the average person even know who they were supposed to be??) These things only have fanboy appeal, not mass appeal.
As for the Rock, sure he is good-looking and funny, but what kind of Clark Kent would he make??? Not a good choice.
Of the people rumored for the role, I liked Henry Cavill best, but we'll see what this Brandon Routh guy can do. I do trust Bryan Singer.
Other cast members:
Lois Lane: Caroline Dhavernas (alternatives: Rose Byrne, Rachel McAdams, Mia Kirshner)
Jimmy Olsen: Shia LaBeouf
Perry White: Bryan Dennehy (alternative: John Spencer)
Lex Luthor: Billy Zane
The three most interesting stories of Superman are: 1) How he became Superman
2) How Superman Died
3) How Superman was reborn
Only two of those stories have been touched by the comics, no one has ever really searched the story of how Clark Kent chose to wear the blue tights and cape and dedicate his life to others. You add the origonal element to all three of those stories you have an epic trilogy.
You would know which hero is which out of costume by putting the actual actors in. Chrisitan Bale- Batman, you add all the actos who resemble the character and let the audience's mind fill in the blanks
