Jesus Christ Superstar tells the last seven days in the life of Jesus Christ with a Broadway flair. It dramatizes Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, the unrest caused and his popularity, his betrayal by Judas, the trial before Pontias Pilate, and his ultimate crucifixion. (monstersandcritics.com)
I can't Imagine Casting anyone in this movie that would make Andrew Lloyd Webber not suck.
I would usually agree, but this is the one thing by him that I do like.
Who's idea was it to cast Shaggy as Judas? That would be like casting Miss Cleo as Mary Magdalene. Then it would be "Fake Jamaican Christ Superstar."
I would cast Emmy Rossum in the role of Mary Magdolene. She has the voice for it and can grant the character just that little bit more emotional depth than Yvonne Elliman could manage. I'm not saying Yvonne wasn't right for the part. At that time the film was made, she was the only one who could give the role credibility. But Emmy definitely has a more Eastern European look about her than Yvonne, who embodied the Hawaii look.
Regards.
I think having Emmy as Mary Magdalene is a great idea.
In August 2006, the Nosotros Foundation and YouTheatre-America! put on a benefit production of Jesus Christ Superstar to raise money for their causes. It featured the quintessential cast for any production on film or stage and had a great director as well. My vote as a JCS fan of many many years lies with this group. I am confident they could pull it off.
