The Odyssey by Homer

The epic Greek tale of love, heroism, and greed, that follows the Trojan war hero Odysseus (the same man that thought up the "Trojan Horse") through various exploits involving many different mythical beings, as he desperately tries to reach his homeland. His adventures include encounters with Polyphemus, a cyclops, Calypso, a sea nymph, Circe, an enchantress, and even a few monsters, including Scylla and Charybdis.

During the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s, Communist dynamiter Robert Jordan is assigned a new mission, to blow up a bridge in the Spanish mountains. His guide, the old Anselmo, takes him to stay with a guerilla band, led by the untrustworthy Pablo and his strong-willed wife, Pilar. Also among the band is the innocent and beautiful Maria, with whom Robert strikes up a memorable courtship. As the tension around them builds, so does the tension within the guerilla band themselves, all up until the thrilling climactic conclusion.
