The Battle of Shiloh by Shelby Foote, Victor David Hanson

A depiction of the Battle of Shiloh, a decisive and bloody battle of the American Civil War fought in Tennessee in April 1862. The Union victory lauched the careers of U.S. Grant and William T. Sherman and paved they way for Union control of the Mississippi and Sherman's March. Killed in the Confederate assault on the first day of the battle was the must revered A.S. Johnston who came to personify the South's "Lost Cause".
