Murder on the Orient Express begins with a flashback sequence to New Paltz, New York City, during 1924, in which police officers surround an unidentified house. After a brief gun battle, two men walk out of the house and surrender. The scene then changes to the Turkish city of Istanbul ten years later. The game's protagonist, and a devoted junior clerk at the Istanbul offices of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagon-Lits, Antoinette Marceau, receives instructions from her employer Marcel Bouc, the Director of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagon-Lits, to attend to the wishes of his good friend Hercule Poirot.
